Exmouth Careers Expo 2024

Recap of the 2024 Exmouth Careers Expo

The 2024 Exmouth Careers Expo was a resounding success, attracting over 200 Exmouth District High School students throughout the day, followed by strong support from the community during the evening carnival event. Families, including mums, dads, grandparents, and siblings, came together to explore career opportunities and enjoy the festivities, featuring Sweet Icecream, Mutts Burgers, and live music by the talented Sunset at Dawn what a talented bunch of students we have!

To kick off each session, we hosted an enlightening panel discussion to inspire our local students about the vast array of future career paths available to them. We extend our heartfelt thanks to our panelists, who generously shared their personal journeys and valuable insights. The panel included representatives from the Australian Federal Police, Marine Scientist from the Minderoo Foundation, Paramedic from St John Ambulance, Engineers, and Human Resources Officers from CPB contractors, providing a comprehensive overview of career possibilities.

Following the panel discussions, the Australian Federal Police Canine Squad captivated the audience with a live demonstration. Students eagerly volunteered their backpacks to showcase the impressive skills of the canine unit in detecting even the smallest traces of explosives. This demonstration was a highlight of the day, leaving a lasting impression and encourage a overwhelming amount of engagement and questions from the students.

Students were then encouraged to explore the expo independently, using their Careers Expo Passports to interact with exhibitors, ask questions, and participate in various activities. The passport photos, dress-ups, and sticker collections were especially popular, adding an element of fun to the educational experience. The expo was bustling with excitement as students held snakes, interacted with the AFP Canine Squad, made badges, spun chocolate wheels, learnt maritime skills, completed quizzes, examined minerals under microscopes, programmed robots, used virtual reality headsets, plunged into the ice bath and learned barista skills. Other engaging activities included a strength test, nappy changing, CPR demonstrations, aquarium tours, and electrical vehicle displays.

Feedback from Exmouth District High School highlighted the expo’s success in bridging the gap between education and the professional world. The school expressed gratitude for the interactive sessions, demonstrations, and personal interactions that allowed students to explore various career paths and engage directly with professionals. These engagements sparked interest and curiosity, helping students to make informed decisions about their future careers.

We are incredibly grateful to everyone who participated and contributed to the success of the 2024 Exmouth Careers Expo. Your support and enthusiasm made this event memorable and impactful for all attendees. We look forward to building on this success and creating even more opportunities for our students and community in future events. Thank you for making the 2024 Exmouth Careers Expo an unforgettable experience!
