The news we’ve been waiting to hear…

Update from the Managing Director of Tourism Western Australia:

Yesterday the Premier made an important announcement, delivering the exciting news that our regional borders would be further reduced and inviting everyone to get out and wander around our great State.

It was the news we’ve been waiting to hear and comes just in time for the long weekend. It came earlier than expected and has given us certainty for our recovery plans.

From Friday May 29, people within WA will be able to travel freely around the State, with the exception of the Kimberley region, other parts of the State’s Commonwealth biosecurity zones and WA’s Aboriginal communities. And more work is being done with the Commonwealth to lift restrictions and to allow travel to the Kimberley region and other biosecurity zones by Friday June 5.

It was great to hear our Premier encourage people to get excited about the travel opportunities this new phase will bring, and urge West Aussies to get behind our local businesses and tourism operators.

At Tourism WA, we’re ramping up our efforts to make sure we’re ready to tap into the groundswell of wanderlust we’ve been inspiring in people through our social channels.

The latest news will also give tourism operators across the State confidence to start planning their business recovery strategies.

A quick reminder to get your applications in for the Tourism Recovery Fund which closes at 6pm AWST, Friday, June 12, 2020. We’ll have further details on the Tourism Survival Grants coming soon.

The easing of restrictions, together with the funding support rolling out, are really important milestones in our recovery process and I look forward to sharing more with you shortly.
