Working with the Defence Industry

This week the ECCI welcomed a long-awaited workshop with ODIS from the Office of Defence Industry Support. Prior to the group workshop at Mantarays on Tuesday the ECCI met with Dan and Rachel from ODIS and Madi from AusIndustry to discuss the role each of their organisations plays in assisting our local businesses to create opportunities in the defence industry and to access new opportunities for growth through the commonwealth government.

Madi is our regional manager from AusIndustry and will be an incredible contact for our local business community creating a connection to the commonwealth government by providing programs and grant funding opportunities. Madi can also provide feedback to relevant government bodies such as home affairs in regards to other matters directly impacting your business.

If you are not already familiar with the business.gov.au site make sure you check it out. It is a fantastic resource for business support across Australia, this site is here to provide information, grants, services and support from across government to help your business succeed. Currently, AusIndustry is running a fantastic Entrepreneurs Programme that helps transform your business, getting you from where you are to where you want to be. This unique service gives you access to expert advice and financial support through grants to help you progress your goals. Visit the business.gov.au site or follow Madi’s Linkedin account to keep up to date with new programs as they are announced.

Pop in to the business hub for printed information packs on the above.

On Tuesday ODIS hosted a workshop inviting local businesses and stakeholders to hear an update from Defence West, Raytheon and the Office of Defence and Industry Support. It was a fantastic opportunity to open up the dialogue between local business owners and industry to understand what the barriers are for local SME’s when trying to access local contracts. The ECCI is incredibly pleased to hear that we now have a local regional contact in the Office of Defence to speak to if we have any issues or concerns moving forward.

If you are interested to find out how your business can start servicing defence contracts the first step is to jump online and complete the ‘Defence Ready Tool’, which can be found here: https://www.dbrt.online/. Once you have completed the questionnaire, you can request a mentor (in the notes type Dan Moss) and then he can work with you on your journey to becoming defence ready.

You don’t have to complete the questionnaire to access ODIS free advisory service, simply reach out to Dan via the below contacts, their team is a wealth of knowledge with their contacts and established networks it will defiantly be of an asset to you and your business. Alongside a robust advisory service and a broad range of industry, contacts ODIS also has access to a range of grants ranging from skill development and building capability in your business.

The ECCI looks forward to developing an ongoing community reference group with the Defence Industry to continue an open dialogue and promote upcoming opportunities and areas of growth for our members.
